Why do I sell the Stratux ADS-B receivers so cheap?
I want people to be safe in the air.
This is why I sell them for what I do. I do not want someone to run into me or someone I love while flying. If providing these to people saves a life, or someone avoids a near miss, then it is worth it.
How much would it cost for me to build?
That is a good question, let's take a look at current prices
- Nooelec 1090ES & UAT - Radios and High Gain Antennas. $76
- Summitlink Case $14
- Raspberry PI 3b+ $48
- AHRS module $40
- GPS module $20
- Battery and cable $25
- SD card $10
- Total is $233
How can I sell them for less?
This is not a money-making venture for me. I do not need to make $200 or more per sale like they do at some other places. I get better prices on the parts I use. Some I buy in bulk directly from the factory and the SDRs I have made to my specs and design.
Is your design reliable?
Yes, we have been making these for years, beginning in 2021 during COVID when some companies could not get parts. We have sold hundreds of this design and have had hundreds of happy customers.
Why do you not have a fan?
Fans are not needed, the Raspberry PI has thermal protection built into it. They can not overheat, the Stratux program uses very little of the processor and will not stress it enough to overheat it.
Thermal throttling:
-
- When a Raspberry Pi gets too hot, it automatically reduces its CPU speed to cool down, which can impact performance
- Critical temperature:
The maximum operating temperature for a Raspberry Pi is around 85°C (185°F)
